In Kings County a building/development permit is required before starting any construction
work. A permit is necessary to make sure minimum health and safety standards are
met and that the proposed development conforms with the requirements of the Land
Use Bylaws and the Provincial Building Code. During construction, Municipal Building
Inspectors make periodic inspections to assure the owner of a building that those
standards are met to protect you and your family.
When do you need a permit?
- New house, relocations of homes including modular homes, mini homes, and
mobile homes.
- Building an addition onto any home or building.
- Building a garage or accessory building more than 215 square feet. NOTE: Development
Permit still required.

- Demolition of a structure.
