The communities of Coldbrook
and Centreville are two of twelve urban Growth Centres
in the Municipality of the County of Kings. Planning
for the two communities has been instituted in the
Kings County Municipal Planning Strategy since 1979,
in which Council has established broad policies against
which Council evaluates individual development proposals. Council
applies this standardized planning approach to all
Growth Centres. However, in 1992, Council included
provisions in the Municipal Planning Strategy for
planning at a more detailed level when and where necessary.
Under the 1992 provisions,
Greenwood and Kingston (1995 and 1997 respectively)
underwent a major planning review and a Sector Plan
was created for each of these Growth Centres. In 2001,
P.A.C. in the course of setting priorities for Councils
long range planning activities identified Coldbrook
as the next community for which detailed planning
was warranted.
When reviewing this
list in 2002, Council requested that Centreville also
be given priority. The result is a project whereby
the two communities will jointly work on matters relevant
to both communities.
