Presently there are two programs in Kings County which are available to assist
children and youth under 19 years of age who are unable financially to afford the
costs of Recreation and Sports registration fees, transportation and equipment costs.
These programs
are KIDSPORT and the CANADIAN TIRE JUMPSTART Program and both require application
forms completed and send to the appropriate contact.
The KIDSPORT Program, which has a local Chapter in Kings County, can assist youth
registering in sports which have member associations at Sport Nova Scotia, with
up to $300.00 per year for registration and/or equipment costs. There are qualifying
levels of family income (depending on family size) and proof of income must be supplied
by the applying family before funding can be approved. The Kidsport Program is administered
every two months with application deadlines of : January 1, March 1, May 1, July
1, September 1 and November 1 in effect each year.
The CANADIAN TIRE JUMPSTART PROGRAM also has a local chapter in Kings County and
can assist children and youth under 19 years with up to $300.00 per application
for registration costs of any active recreation or sports program. The application
must be signed by an individual/ official (see application form) from the community
who is aware of the familys financial need and is willing to verify this on the
application form.
The Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program is administered three times per year in mid-April,
late June and early October with deadline dates varying slightly each year. (Check
