Our Council

The Municipal Government of Kings County consists of two operative areas. The political mandate operates under a Council/Committee of the Whole system with eleven elected Councillors setting policy for the corporation, approving budgets, establishing the tax rates, appointing senior staff on recommendation from the Chief Administrative Officer and ensuring the efficient operation of the corporation. In general, Council's role is to represent the wishes of all residents at the municipal government level and to liaise with other levels of government to ensure that municipal interests are clearly articulated and acted upon accordingly.

The implementation of Council's policies is assigned to the Chief Administrative Officer, a management team of Department Heads, professional, administrative and support staff.

The eleven Kings County Councillors, representing one Polling District per Councillor, are elected to serve a four year term. The last election was held in October, 2008. The Council selects the Warden and Deputy Warden from among themselves.

The Warden and Councillors of the Municipal Council are charged with the general stewardship of the Municipality of the County of Kings.
