Councillor Jim Taylor was elected as Municipal Councillor for Polling District No.
1 at a Special Election on May 26, 2007 and was re-elected in October, 2008. Polling
District No. 1 includes the areas of Scotts Bay, Blomidon, Canning, Kingsport, Baxters
Harbour, and Sheffield Mills.
Jim presently serves on the Municipal Economic Development Committee, Policy Review
Committee, Nominating Committee, Board of Management of Grand View Manor and Board
of Management of Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre.
He is a life long resident of Sheffield Mills and former teacher at Cornwallis District
High School. Jim is married to Peggy and they have two grown children, Britt in
Sheffield Mills and Jana in Montreal as well as three grand-daughters.
Over the years, Jim has been extremely active in community affairs including the
current President of the Sheffield Mills Community Association, Chair of the Sheffield
Mills Harvest Festival, St. Michael and All Angels Church, Fieldwood Heritage Society,
Habitant Royal Canadian Legion, Canning & District Food Bank and the Canning
and District Inter-Church Council. He is a long time member of the Canning Schooner
Hockey Club and founder and editor of the Sheffield Mills newsletter “Millstone”.
