Dog Licenses

Why should I register my dog?

For dog owners, the main benefit is that dogs who become lost and are then located can be returned to the owners much more quickly. For taxpayers, the animal control contract for the Municipality of Kings County costs approximately $90,000 each year and dog registration will provide a means to offset this cost. The Municipality has been encouraged by SPCA and PAWS to have a dog registration fee as a key step to improve the general level of animal care in the Municipality.

$30 for dogs that are not spayed or neutered

What if my dog is sold during the year?
Please contact the County of Kings Municipal Office to arrange for a change of registration.

What happens if my dog is picked up without a dog tag?
A lost dog maybe claimed from the pound within 72 hours, providing pound fees and where necessary registration fees are paid.

A license isn't just a fashion accessory, it helps identify your dog if it gets lost, and license fees help offset the costs of Animal Control.

Spayed and Neutered
Registrants will be required to provide written proof from a veterinarian or certify in writing at time of registration that the dog has been spayed or neutered.
