2003 Shoreline Discovery Tour
On Monday July 28th several residents of the Lake George and Aylesford Lake area
participated in a shoreline stewardship tour on Lake George. Because of high winds
on the lake, Reg Newell and Ruth Newell led participants on a walk to discover plant
life on the lake edge and in the riparian area.
Some of the plant life that was seen on the tour includes: Spruce, Alders, Ferns
– several different varieties, Corn Lily, Club Moss, Indian Pipe, Blueberry,
Lily of the Valley, Ash, Striped Maple
2006 Shoreline Discovery Tour
On Aug 22nd, 2006 our Volunteer Lake Monitors Dave and Kelly Sheehan hosted the
tour at their beautiful home on Tupper Lake. It was another very informative presentation
by Reg and Ruth Newell about the natural ecology of Tupper Lake. The event was well
attended and received by the residents of Tupper Lake.
2007 Shoreline Discovery Tour
This year the Shoreline Discovery Tour took place on Sunken Lake, the most recent
addition to the Lake Monitoring Program. Once again, biologists Ruth and Reg Newell
led a group of local residents on a guided tour through the natural ecosystems that
surround the lake. Interesting stories were told of the plants and animals that
were discovered along the way. Special emphasis was put on human interactions with
nature, including Native people’s use of herbs and present day recreational
uses. All who participated had a great time and learned a lot!

The volunteer residents are the backbone of the stewardship program. Without their
dedication and help, this program would not have been possible. The Municipality
of Kings County wishes to thank all participants in the program. Their dedication
and effort to the Lake Monitoring Program is greatly appreciated.
Special thanks to Arnold Forsythe (Black River Lake), Fred Hayden (Lake George)
and Barry Yoell (Lumsden Pond) for their 10 years of dedication and help to the
Program.
