P12-01: Large-Scale Wind Turbines

The Municipality of the County of Kings is reviewing its regulations for large-scale wind turbines, which were adopted in 2011. Highlights of the current regulations include as-of-right permitting and a 2300ft (700m) minimum separation distance between turbines and dwellings.

This project will be an opportunity for Council to further review information on wind turbines, and, most importantly, to hear from the residents of Kings County.

Upcoming Public Meetings

The following meetings are open to the public.

Public Participation Meeting - Thu., May 10th, 2012, 5:00PM
Council Chambers, 87 Cornwallis St., Kentville
- Any interested persons who wish to speak on the proposed amendments are
invited to attend and make their opinions known to the Planning Advisory
Committee.
- In order to accommodate all members of the public who may wish to speak on
the matter, the Municipality is requesting that persons wishing to speak register
  their intent with Planning Services at least one day prior to the meeting and, if
  possible, provide a written copy of their presentation at the meeting. Persons
  registered to speak will be invited to address PAC before those who are not.

Special PAC Meeting - Mon., May 14th, 2012, 1:00PM
Council Chambers, 87 Cornwallis St., Kentville
  - A special PAC meeting to consider public input from the PPM and forward a
    recommendation on to Council.

Special Council Meeting - Tue., May 15th, 2012, 6:00PM
Council Chambers, 87 Cornwallis St., Kentville
- A special Council meeting to consider PAC’s recommendation and potentially give
   First Reading to the proposed amendments, thereby forwarding the amendments
   to a Public Hearing.

Survey: The Kings County Large-scale Wind Turbine Questionnaire is now closed. Almost 500 residents took the opportunity to provide feedback through this questionnaire. The results of the questionnaire will be aggregated and released in a report (email addresses will be omitted) to be posted on this page at a later date. Keep checking the “Documents” section for the report.

Public Meetings: Planning Advisory Committee and Council meetings are generally open to public viewing. However, a few of the meetings for this project are specifically designed as forums for public comment and input. Please see above, “Upcoming Public Meetings”, for information on these meetings.
