Race Relations & Anti-Discrimination

In February of 2008 the Council of the Municipality of the County of Kings formally approved a Declaration to join the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities against Racism - part of a larger United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) initiative.

The Race Relations and Anti-Discrimination Committee comprises six and maximum nine committee members including: two Municipal Councillors, one or two Municipal Staff Member, and between three and five residents of the Municipality of the County of Kings. All members must be appointed annually by the Council of the Municipality via the Nominating Committee and the members must be residents of the County of Kings.

The function of the Race Relations and Anti-Discrimination Committee is to engage the community and formulate action plans to address issues concerning social marginalization, equity, racism and discrimination within the County. The Committee will also examine issues and barriers in creating a community that is inclusive in the broadest sense.

Vision : We envision the Municipality of the County of Kings as a recognized leader in establishing and implementing policies, programs and practices to eliminate racism, discrimination and exclusion.

Mission : To determine where and how racism, discrimination and exclusion are manifest in the Municipality of the County of Kings. To recommend policies, programs and practices designed to eliminate racism, discrimination and exclusion, to monitor the effects of recommendations and to report on changes.

Cornwallis Petition: On Tuesday, March 16th at the Committee of the Whole, Council passed a motion to post a link to Dr. Daniel Paul's Cornwallis petition on the Municipalitie's website.
